I was building in this space and feel so vindicated that I made the decision to stop due to AI agents. If you don’t own inventory you really risk becoming obsolete.
Love this. And agree 1000%. A couple points to pile on:
- it’s also incredibly not recession proof. Not only do people stop shopping, brands often stop spending. AND people look for Honey type solutions more.
- all the AI fashion tech I’ve seen has been relatively mid. Most of the search and discovery functions seem similar to Google Shopping.
- have you seen consumer fashion tech that had a good business model though? Consumers at scale don’t want to spend around fashion unless it is for the clothes. Is this category just doomed?
this is a good take! we’re trying to do something similar to the realreal, but at the same time very different:
we’re building the operating system for resale. the operating system that brings the fragmented and offline quality secondhand inventory online.
then we are launching a marketplace for with quality assured secondhand, with supply from everyone using our operating system.
i’ve written about it here, would love to get your thoughts on it: https://open.substack.com/pub/circularresale/p/resale-2026?r=5b9yqz&utm_medium=ios

Way too much “this isn’t x, it is y”.
