Thanks Brian- nice post and I think about this a lot: GLP-1RAs and the AI revolution in healthcare, particularly mental health. Both are reshaping how we think about efficiency, outcomes, and most importantly, access. Over two decades of research on GLP-1s began with observations that cognitive deficits in diabetes mirror those in mood disorders. It is often quoted by neuroscience experts how “obesity metastasizes to the brain," worsening cognition and mood. GLP-1s are showing some evidence to support neuroplasticity, neuroprotection, and interact with both insulin and glutamate pathways which are central mechanisms to cognition in mood disorders and other serious mental health conditions (i.e. schizophrenia, dementia, ect). And, while they may enhance cognition, restore reward processing, and even be disease modifying; access, affordability, and safe monitoring remain hurdles. This is where AI-driven care models could be transformative, optimizing patient selection, predicting response, and enabling remote monitoring at scale. Imagine a future where metabolic and mental health care are integrated, personalized, and widely accessible. These two worlds could not only help optimize, "relentless productivity" as you suggested but also serve to help so many people live in a way they never thought they could.
