I whole heartedly agree. I've had many similar conversations recently in similar settings and found myself saying much off what you've expressed in here. AI might just force us to back to lean into the stuff that makes us human.
I love the vision. But I think some anxiety is warranted since the focus of tech these days seems to be in milking and monetizing everyone's attention in ways that work directly against your prescription to "Teach them to read deeply. Teach them to make things with their hands. Teach them to write one true sentence that no machine ever could. Teach them to walk into a room full of strangers and actually see the people in it." I'd love to see some investment in AI for the public benefit instead of just the marketing benefit.
Studied sociology in college and could not agree more! Ironically I’m joining a firm with the thesis of human first too. Great read! Shared it with my parents
I feel the same glimmer of hope that what we are left with when AI automates all that it can - is just the best part of humanity. The humans. I’m with you - teach kids music, art, kindness, dance, building things, being self sufficient. When answers and content is everywhere the only thing we need is the creativity to ask a good question.
Great article. Loved reading it.
Thanks @rithvik
